E39 m5 Touring equivalent.

Been trying to think of an equivalent of the M5, but as an estate with a manual gearbox.

Only two I've came up with so far is a B7 RS4, which is a fair bit smaller, or VXR8/Clubsport tourer, which would likely require self importing.

Hopefully Im missing something obvious, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Buy an m5 and a tidy M sport estate and break out the spanner’s

In all fairness there’s not a great deal of options with a manual gearbox in estate form / v8

I think people have made e39 m5 tourings. There’s certainly the odd m3 touring kicking around. Alpina as mentioned but only the 3.2 and 3.3 are manual and a good way off in terms of power. Very nice cars though.

There’s the e34 m5 touring and alpina models too.

Another option that would probably require importing is the Cadillac CTS-V wagon. 6.2 supercharged LSA engine and available with a 6 speed manual.

I think that the Alpina was only an auto - I looked when buying the M5...

One option would be to simply buy the 540 - still a v8 and not far off the M5 in performance... but comes as an estate car
you could undoubtedly tweak suspension / brakes / engine as needed...

3.2 and 3.3 straight sixes, 260ish bhp, manual or auto

4.6 and 4.8 V8's, 350-380 ish bhp, all auto.

MG/Rover option is a good one actually. Forgot about those.

At that age, I'd be looking at something like:
Volvo V70 R (although not quite as focussed as an M5!)
Subaru Legacy R Tourer
Nissan Stagea Autech 260RS
Mitsubishi Legnum Vr4
Lancer Evo IX Wagon

Hexagon charge through the nose for everything.

The manual gearshift will be the hardest thing to find - if you compromise on that then all the big Mercs fall into consideration...
