Hi Folks, we're going to look at a Leaf on Saturday and need to check the battery SOH. Can anyone explain in non tech language what we need to do to test the battery using a leafspy?

I understand it's a dongle but I wouldn't know the right one to buy.

I also understand it needs to talk to an app, does the app need to be a on a phone?

How does this combination connect to the car and how can you see the results?

Many thanks in advance.

Well you need an ODB2 reader. Any number on Amazon for a few quid.

Then you need the free Leaf Spy app.

The ODB2 reader will connect to your phone via Bluetooth.

Plug the reader into the car's diagnostic port (lower right of the steering wheel under a plastic cover) and off you go.

The reader will show SOH on the top of the main screen.

That's the easy bit. The hard bit is that I would not, under any circumstances, let someone just rock up and plug something in to my car's electronics. No way. I suspect the owner might feel the same. He might not though, maybe you've had this conversation.

The solution IMHO is agree to take the car to a reputable local garage and pay a small fee for the reading to be taken.

Ace, thanks very much. Car is at a dealer so hopefully not a problem.
