Hi,

As per above... what exactly is it, and can it be removed?

I’m hearing that more and more that the ruining the sound of the latest N/A engines.

Is it something that a mechanic can remove quite easily or is it more embedded in the car?

It's illegal, so a moot point.

They're fitted to the header area IIRC and engines are mapped based on the back pressure they apply. Removal would seriously upset the fueling so you would need a re-map. Bye bye warranty. I'm unsure how it would affect an MOT test.

It can be done, but you need to consider the consequences.

Car isn’t road legal if you remove particulate filter which breach a standard clause in all policies about a car being road legaly. New legislation brought in relatively recently because of people removing DPF’s. Obviously you’d need a pretty bid insurance claim for them to inspect the car.

And lets face it PF’s are on cars for a good reason.

That's as may be. Many people fit de-cat downpipes etc.
This is an enthusiasts site after all.. :-)

Yup....but I doubt many people understand the implications of it. 5 years ago there weren't any legal implications as long as you told your insurer....now there are even if you do.

That has always been the case.

Never have I ever heard of insurance not being paid out due to Decat or DPF delete .... even in horrific crashes. As long as exhaust modifications are declared...
