British GT Ultima

Hi,

Wondered if anyone had heard what happened to the Master Motorsport Ultima that was running in the British GT series. It was there for the pre-season publicity stuff and the first round at Donnington but didn't turn up for the Magny Cours round nor the ones at Knockhill or it would appear at Thruxton...though the car was definitely on the KH programme.

We saw the ultima running at Thruxton last week. Should still be there....although judging by the comparison in pit set-up it looks like a strapped budget entry

According to the British GT website it's a Prosport 3000 rather than an Ultima. I must admit it really does look like the race Ultima but I think they've put Ultima GTR like rear bodywork on a ProSport.

Either way it's not the Master Motorsport car.

Wonder what happened to Colin Blower's old race car that was up for sale over the winter???

Define 'dangerous'? A car with 1bhp would be dangerous in the wrong hands!

The car was built by Colin Blower at the same time as his GTR...

Sorry should re-define that with uncontrolable, not able to put power down no matter how large the tyres, would rather swap ends then go forwards, etc.

Only used dangerous cause I happened to be reading an article on the XJR 15 that classified it as dangerous, but this was due to the center of gravity being in the wrong place.

Ah, well that's different

A lot of it is down to how the engine makes the power. My old GTR was completely linear in its delivery of 630odd horses, whereas a turbocharged version (like the Spectrum 5 project for example) would be completely different to drive. Getting all that boost midway round a corner probably wouldn't do much for the cleanliness of your undies

If truth be known, on the road at least, anything over 300 brake is more than adequate. Mega-hp figures make for good pub talk but it's a rare day when you can use them all. In, for instance, an overtaking move, you'd be surprised how little difference there is between a 'low' powered Ultima (300ish) and say the 640 demonstrator.

In short, they're all VERY fast, but very safe too

In terms of being uncontrollable, dunno, no-one's put in anything 'too' powerful yet

On a different note would the new M5 engine or the Viper engine fit into the Ultima, as they would give huge BHP and something a little bit different from the V8 rumble.

Or thinking about it has anyone actually done something like this??

Im sure anything, apart from an engine out of a supertanker, will fit!

The difference is that the factory support the use of the american engines. There are no chassis mods needed. Depends how much development time you want to put into your project

There's a proper ultima that races the mobile windscreens gt championship at Castle Combe. It's owned and driven (or was) by Bob Light (I think thats his name). It's recently been re-painted black with gold stripes (maybe under new ownership). It's mega quick and sound like a spitfire when it's coming down the straight. You should check it out. Usually there at every race meeting without fail.

Trouble is, the race is boring 'cause he always wins (unless it goes bang).

Are you sure it is an Ultima? Bob Light, some time Ultima racer, used to drive a Stealth lately...
