Driving in Sport mode, easier on the turbo?

Sorry the title is incomplete. It should say, "Driving in sport mode, easier on the turbo at low speeds?"
I rarely drive in sport mode but I recently noticed when I did, the turbo seems to have to work less. Is it because in Sport mode you are at higher rpms (even at low speeds) therefore more exhaust gas is being supplied and the turbo doesn't have to work as hard?
When I compared driving at low speeds (under 80 km/hr) in normal mode and sport mode, in normal mode the turbo gauge needle will request boost (+0.1 - +0.5) but in sport mode it would never request boost but only stay around -0.4 to -0.2

The gauge doesn't "request" boost, and if the engine isn't in boost then nothing that happens on the exhaust side is affecting anything you're describing.

Great way of explaining it. That makes sense when I think about it from a throttle point of view. Yes, I was giving it much less throttle due to the perception of the higher revs thinking I was going faster. From your description, you're using less torque when you're in sport mode.
