They have been struggling for some time and filled for bankruptcy earlier this week. The CAA already have aircraft on standby.

Balls. Going away with Thomas Cook on Monday, really could do without the hassle if this goes tits up!

Edit: Hopefully if they do go bust it’s over the weekend before we go. It’s mentioning going into administration; does that mean they would still be operating or all holidays would be cancelled?

There's some crazy numbers being quoted in the BBC article.

Apparently 150,000 people may need to be repatriated at an estimated cost of £600m.

BBC News said:
A collapse would leave 150,000 holidaymakers stranded and require a huge repatriation effort.

...

Sources have confirmed that the Civil Aviation Authority is on standby with a repatriation contingency plan called Operation Matterhorn. The potential cost of bringing home passengers is put at about £600m.
Are they proposing to fly everyone home in first class via Asia, or something?

We have a 1 way flight on the 7th Oct to G Canaria and I have just look up the booking form and found out it ISNT ATOL protected, so I am fked get comp from them if its tits up. But might be able to get funds back thru my Mastercard protection. But TUI also have a flight same day, sameish time for 69 quid. Between a rock and a hard place whether to cancel and rebook with TUI!

On hold with TC for 20 mins so far

Blimey what does that work out per head? Looks like a WAG of £4000 average return flight, if only TC could have charged that much in the first place they’d not have a problem.
Serious questions need to be asked of the BoD how they got into this state and punitive action taken against them if found culpable imho.

Good (apart from some of the innocent employees)

How anyone could use that shower for a holiday after the 2015 carbon monoxide scandal I’ll never know!

Bit worrying for my eldest son, he has just gone into the fourth year of his apprenticeship with TC as an aircraft tech, on his way to being qualified but not quite there.

I'd steer clear of this thread. Soon enough they'll be imbeciles along dancing on the grave of the loss of a company and all the associated job losses and heartache.

Probably because they got back from Benidorm 15 minutes late in 1987.

Yeah, do seem to get a lot of comments like that, see it on Facebook as well.

It does seem a leap to want the whole company that been around since 1800 and something to fail and thousands to lose their jobs based on a poor experience in the past ?

Booked flights with TUI, for 169 pounds. Cancelled with Cook and have now found out I was mislead on their cancellation rebate. I was quoted 98 pounds back, BUT they are going to charge 25 to actually cancel. So the refund isnt fkING 98 is it.

I hope they go bust.

Thomas Cook need £200 million to keep going. The repatriation will cost £600m.

Is it just me or am I missing something?
