I'm hoping to recover a bad "buy cheap, buy twice" /"perils of FB marketplace" situation. I bought a clio 172 with some very low and hard springs. I've been looking for a half decent set and finally what appeared to be some turned up on Facebook.
Unfortunately what turned up was a set of very rusty shocks, with one top mount seized in place and some springs with the coating flaking off and completely gone in places.
Obviously the FB seller is not being helpful.
So, has anyone out there had springs stripped and re-coated? If so, how much did it cost?
I'm wondering if there is any point throwing more money at this, or to just chuck it in a skip.

Although not brand new, nothing wrong with those second hand springs

Apart from the fact i can't get one off the strut, they're ok. There is a fair amount of surface corrosion and i don't want it to get worse.
Would calliper paint work?

The thing with springs is exactly that they move and twist. Unless you galvanise they will always crack any paint or powder coating. All I can suggest for a longer lasting finish is shot blast the old coating off then phosphate dip the springs before re-painting with an added plasticiser so when the spring moves the coating won’t split.
Cheap alternative is to remove the springs and dip in oil so it penetrates under the lifted existing powder coat. Any bare steel will need the oil cleaned off before touching up with paint

Thinking about the oil, What about something like waxoil? Or would that need re-application every year?

Waxoil will make all the road dirt and dust stick to them. Will do the job though
