Good evening all,

I wonder if someone can assist me with what is probably quite a simple question. In the next 12 months I'm looking to buy a Porsche. I really love the look and styling of the 987 based Cayman S but my question is this:

As I'm 6ft 4 will there be sufficient headroom for me in the drivers seat with a race helmet on?

For reference I currently do track days in a MK2 MX-5 but I can't get a helmet on without the roof down, I'm comfortable in it without a helmet on and the roof up.

I appreciate the obvious answer is to try one but I'd like not to waste a seller's time if it's a complete no no.

Thanks in advance.

I'm 6'2" and there is loads of headroom...even with a helmet on. I also used to track a 986 Boxster and even with the roof up there was plenty of space.

If you're based in Oxfordshire, you're more than welcome to come and sit in mine (Cayman 987)

I'm based in West Yorkshire unfortunately but I appreciate your replying, thank you. It seems I should be ok with one.

You may have more trouble with legroom. I'm under 6ft and had the seat right back in my old Cayman

Hi OP,

I am 6'4 and own a 987 CS. I am slightly longer in the torso than the legs so head room is always a problem for me in many cars but with the seat slightly forward and the back rest reclined at about a 110 degree angle, I can fit just fine and it's comfortable for a long journey etc. Having a race lid on is tight if I am honest but after exploring a number of different options on changing the seat or the mounting brackets etc, it seems the standard sports seats are mounted pretty much as low as they will go. My last - and yet unexplored - option is to get a trimmer to take out the seat padding and replace with a thinner pad, but for every day use it's perfectly comfortable so it's something i'll get around to early next year.

Oh and the next thing you'll hear is that they don't make great track cars because of all the Porsche snobbery that exists but for occassional track use, they are great cars.

You'll need to avoid the Porsche bucket seats as they are fixed in height and they'll sit too high in the cabin for you.
