Got myself an Abarth with an MTA gearbox last month and I have to say it's one of the most fun cars i've ever driven.

However this past week i've been getting a burning smell under hard acceleration, roughly just before the revs redline.

The car is 5 years old and has done 25k and its next service is due next month which i'm sure will need to include the cambelt and water pump change.

Could the cambelt be causing the smell as it's nearing the end of it's life? Only other thing I can think of is the clutch slipping but it's hard to tell with it being an auto box.

Any ideas?

Are you near London? I forget which one but there is an independent Alfa garage that does a Saturday clinic free check over.

Unfortunately not. I’m based in the West Midlands. It’s booked in on Tuesday to have its cam belt and water pump changed so I will ask about it then. Hoping it’s not the clutch as I have heard some horror stories about the MTA gearboxes...

The MTA gearbox is just the normal box that’s been robotised is it not?
