Salvage bike insurance
Discussion
With mine it made no difference at all.
It was declared beyond economic repair but I bought it back and put it back on the road.
My insurance continued with the same company, they just wanted it to be MOT-ed as proof the repairs were fine.
I changed insurance companies a couple of times after that with no issues.
it was a 2008 SV1000 (not that it should make any difference).

Then I would have been really, really careless!
In all honesty, I've no idea, however, upon renwals, when the value of the bike was stated, I always said it was lower than what I assumed an uncrashed one to be. The same with when I sold it.
I assume that the insurance company would have paid out again as it was still an object of value worth £x.

Some companies won’t insure ex write offs so although it probably won’t make much of a difference in price it will limit your choice a bit.
I don’t know about insuring a cat C bike as I just scrapped mine but when I tried to reinsure my car the insurance company wanted an engineers report and a new MOT.
I’ve only ever run salvage bikes, until this year I’ve never had an issue insuring them. Issue came when I moved to the motorbike side of Flux....on the phone did mention it was a Cat N, they then said, “oh just get a engineers report, they’re cheap and all will be ok”, somewhat stupidly I agreed and got the cover.
A day later I realised that the engineers report would cost the same as the annual insurance premium and there were none in the vicinity (the bike had been with me for a good few years and MOT’ed in y ownership since write off). A call with an ultimatum - I’ve been mis-informed, either a) withdraw the requirement or b) refund my policy cost in full, including all admin fees. They chose option A and I’ll be going elsewhere next year

Mrs 215's Bandit was rear-ended and written off last year, she got a full payout and bought the remains back for buttons.
I put the bike back on the road easily enough and her insurers were happy to let the policy continue with no changes, no new mot, no increase in premium etc.
Even her renewal was no more than we would have expected and she continued with the same company.

I got knocked off my R1200RT at walking pace. Picked it up and carried on riding.
When the insurance company collected it and took it away for assessment, they deemed that literally half a dozen minor scratches and a dented header pipe deemed the £9k bike a write off. Paid me out, I bought it back for £1900, the same insurance company re-insured it with no discernible charge in premium, and I'm still commuting daily on it 3 years later.

How much did you re-insure it for? I guess it wasn't £1900.When the insurance company collected it and took it away for assessment, they deemed that literally half a dozen minor scratches and a dented header pipe deemed the £9k bike a write off. Insurance companies can be a bit odd.

So you're paying the same premium for a bike that is probably be worth a lot less...I put the bike back on the road easily enough and her insurers were happy to let the policy continue with no changes, no new mot, no increase in premium etc.

10 year-old Bandit 650; not many people are ever going to HPI before buying at that end of the market.Apart from anything, I think at her last renewal it was less than £90 anyway.
