I am considering a 3.2 cayenne for my family car.
What are the opinions of owners withregards to reliability, practicality and fun factor?
thanks

I had a Cayenne V6 manual and did 20,000 miles in it
I drove to Corsica last year in it as well
you need to rev the nuts of the V6 to get it going ( as it a VW engine )
but it will happily cruise at 110-115mph all day
it also handles well
I took it around Bedford last year !
talk about cutting corners !
on a long run it did 19-20 mpg and around town
17-18mpg
make sure you get one with sat-nav ( resale values )

I got one a couple of months ago as my second/family car. Can't really comment on reliability (perfect so far) but I've really enjoyed it so far. Compared to the S and Turbo the V6 is relatively underpowered, but compared to most other similar cars out there it's nippy enough. The family love it - really comfortable, loads of room, great visibility and a much nicer interior than the X5s we looked at. Loads of room in the boot and mine's got the detachable towbar so I can tow my next track car. Really enjoy driving it, you completely forget you're driving a 2 tonne plus 4x4, it handles great. I drove up to North Wales a fortnight ago on the twisties and got there in the same time as it takes in the GT3.

As already stated cars without PCM seem to be priced quite a bit lower (but then it does cost you £2k+ in the first place!), I'd also say the same applies to Tiptronic tranny, and it's a big car so I find the park assist handy.

The only negative comment I'd make is about the fuel consumption, it really is awful! I get about 17 round town, and have only once had it over 20 (200 mile journey towing empty trailer at). Big tank means a useful range, but £75 of Optimax a time makes your eyes water!

Just run normal unleaded then !

For what it`s worth I`d buy the V8 S rather than a V6. By the time you`ve added a bit of spec there isn`t so much of a price difference and you end up with a car that really wants for nothing, you never feel it needs more power and are not constantly "dreaming" or "wishing" of an upgrade.

As for Sat Nav I would agree that as a dealer cars without it do have to sell on price. I once borrowed a Cayenne without Sat Nav which had a rather odd looking stereo with 2 big rotary knobs. The car felt like 15 grand`s worth, if ever there was lesson in not buying a base model car that was it !

Good cars especially if you need one car to do all jobs.

The air suspension is nice as you can lower the car a couple of inches which makes it look visually better balanced and shows off the stunning lines of the vehicle.

ive got an S with most of the bells whistles et al. Very pleased with it indeed. Spec's down to the individual, but id recommend as much as you can afford.

Reliability so far is spot on.
Fun factor is immense (and i tried quite a few rival cars that didnt come close)

as a 'do all' vehicle its very hard to beat, but id really go for at least an S if you can. If i had the V6 i know i'd always be 'wanting' and thats only gonna cost you even more in the long run!

do they all have air suspension ?

do you reckon over next couple of years a 50k turbo will hold value better than a 40k S ?

i think its the issue of 'adjustable air-susp' thats being talked about ( i think?) in which case its only standard on the turbo optional on the S & V6 (£2500 extra????)

i think "%" residuals will be fairly similar on both the S & the turbo however in cash terms, a 25-30% hit on £50k is still more of a smack than that of £40k!

that said, and me being slightly biased cause ive got one, i would still plump for the S because IMHO its the best balance between value for money and capability.

tis quick very torquey which appeals most of which (if im correct) comes at 2500-5000 rpm????

0-60 'bout 7 secs good for 150-160 works well with the pasm & air suspens on sport mode tiptronic makes it more responsive (the auto is fine, but feels a little 'lazy' under hard acceleration).

just got back from a blat across n france autoroutes swallowed up easily can cruise happily & quietly @ 100-115mph and importantly with refinement.

bose system is also worth getting i think its better than the m levinson thing in the new lexus rx

Have you been for a drive in one yet? If not go and do it and make your own mind up. I've absolutely no doubt I'd prefer an S to my V6 but like you I couldn't justify the additional expense, and have to say I'm extremely happy with mine. I got mine as a comfortable luxury cruiser, roomy family car and tow car - if I want a sports car the GT3 comes out of the garage

We're still talking about a power:weight ratio similar to the hot hatches of not many years ago!

I have had my (fairly highly specd) V8 for nearly two years and have had no major problems but several minor niggles. Including:

Misting headlights (now sorted after several attempts)

Numerous squeeks & rattles (mirraculously -all sorted on the first visit and not re-occured)

Recurring electrical problem regarding the remote locking

Tyres feathering after 9 thousand miles.

The wiper auto rain sensors on this vehicle have never worked despite several attempts to fix them. Porsche have now refused to look at them again. They were a complete waste of money. I have a friend with a Cayenne turbo and his auto rain sensors are also a waste of time.

What is the boot like on the Cayenne? Ie, could you fit a couple of mountain bikes (without taking the wheels off) in the back with the back seats down?
