I currently have a 2010 Megane RS 250 Cup and am looking for ideas for what I want my next car to be. I have a maximum of 25k to spend and would ideally like something with equal or better performance than my megane.

As I only need to drive at weekends because I get the train to work I'm not really bothered about practicality or comfort. Just something that is a good laugh when I do drive it.

I'm only 21 so getting something with a big V8 is probably out of the question due to insurance.

Any ideas?

First of all you're 21- have you got on the property ladder yet? If not do that and only spend £5k on a car. That's the standard PH response anyway, but one I am fully onboard with now I've also done it.

Something like a 140i M Sport?

Personally I would think a 140i would be boring especially compared to a megane sport (although probably more competent)
If you don’t need practical I would go Lotus Elise. Peanuts to run and always an occasion to drive.

Caterham or Elise or something equally driver focussed.

Does an Atom or an X-Bow come within budget?

I don't have a garage and I think parking a caterham out in the open on the road is probably a bad idea. Also not really a fan of BMW's

Best keep the Megane then.

You're going to be hard pressed to beat the Megane, maybe add some nice mods like the Ohlins set up along with a map & intercooler.

Or if you just want something new then maybe look at the 370Z Nismo:

Spend a few quid tuning on the Megane?

Yep, tune the Megane and move out of mum and dads house sooner.

See what the insurance is like on Elise, Boxster, 370Z and similar before you rule them out. They aren't normally driven by 21 year olds so the algorithms might work in your favour. Probably a good idea to contact a broker. Also ignore the old at heart who say get on the property ladder as soon as you can, enjoy your car while you have no ties. I bought a Jaguar when I was 22, it probably put back the purchase of my first house by two years, but I didn't regret it for a minute smile

I think I'm gonna find some of the cars you've suggested and test drive them to see what I like and then go from there.

Thanks for the help
