Looking at getting a smart watch in the near future.
Will be Android. Not really for fitness.
Want to be able to make and receive calls on it.
Want to be able to use WhatsApp.
I find it very difficult to find any where that lists the watches capabilities.
Does anyone know a decent website that compares/lists watches and what they can and can't do.
Any recommendations?
Samsung Galaxy Watch ?
Any new watches worth waiting for.
Many thanks.

I have a Galaxy Watch, had it for over a year, before that I had a variety of Wear OS watches none of which I really liked. Use my Watch for notifications, weather, controlling music and the odd voice command like, "Set timer 10 minutes". Works great, rotating bezel works great and the battery will last a good 2 days with the screen always on, you can get that up to 4-5 days with the AOD (always on display) off and wrist gestures on. Samsung still support and update it as well and there's a vast array of watch faces available, limited apps however due to it being Tizen OS, I've not missed anything though.
Android wise, I personally think it's the best all round Watch available.

Are you paired to a Samsung phone?
Thanks
Are there any smartwatches which actually look good (in the traditional watch sense) but also offer utility and function?
The Huawei smartwatches have been some of the nicer ones I've noticed, but the OS and software experience seems to be in question judging by most reviews. A smaller watch would be nice, 42mm maximum. A lot of watches seem like they are sized more akin to the gauges on your car's dashboard than a nice wristwatch.

Galaxy Watch has Samsungs Bixby assistant, which you can talk to, works fine for simple commands such as, "Set timer 10 minutes" or "Call wife" or "Remind me to do x at x time" etc. And yes, you can make and receive calls via the watch if you so please, it has a microphone and speaker, I tried it once and while it worked fine, found it a bit odd speaking into your wrist.

Yeah but it looks a bit James Bondish !!For the Galaxy Watch, you can buy bezels from Ringke, which can make the watch look more traditional. There's loads to choose from for a variety of tastes. I've got a black one with tachymeter numbers on, looks great imo.

No, mines paired to a Xaiomi mi 9 .
Everything zedex says above is true.
tried a couple of smart watches and the galaxy watch is damn near perfect. And it's waterproof. And it's not wear OS which is infuriatingly unintuitive and unreliable.
Tizen is superb, plenty of app support for the common stuff. Including WhatsApp.

Now that's interesting, thanks.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ringke+galaxy+wa...
Galaxy Watch is deffo the best option. I've got a Ringke Bezel on mine and it really is a great bit of kit. But, I've also got a Garmin Fenix, and the fitness side is more important to me than the smartwatch side of things. I'll therefore be moving mine on in the near future if you're interested. Pic is without the Ringke Bezel.

The only issues I have with my Galaxy Watch are the lack of Google Assistant (I know there is a workaround but it isn't particularly good) and no Google Pay. My bank doesn't support Samsung pay so I couldn't use it if I wanted to but I also can't remap the button that launches Samsung pay.You want it for fitness as well? I would consider some of Garmin's latest offerings. I have had two Fenix watches and now have a 5. Will probably upgrade in a couple of years. Very very durable and proper buttons too. Display isn't as nice as the latest and greatest from Samsung.
Latest Garmin Venu looks really quite good. Decent display but not as durable as the Fenix series.
I have had various watches over the years and I have been wearing the Fenix watches for nearly two years and I don't think I will be changing any time soon.

The Garmin range are great for fitness and I still miss my Fenix 3 but it just isn't very smart. You can get notifications but not really do anything with them.Latest Garmin Venu looks really quite good. Decent display but not as durable as the Fenix series.

If fitness is your thing (and I mean really your thing) then go Garmin.
If you want a smartwatch that will do fitness, go Samsung. None of the Wear OS offerings come close IMO.
For me, I also don't get how the lack of Google Assistant or Google Pay is a deal-breaker. For the former, you need a smartphone / WiFi connection for it to work properly, and you also look an idiot speaking to your watch.
For the latter, most people will normally have their smartphone with them, so just use that for Google Pay.
I also wouldn't trust having my smartwatch as the only way to pay. But, if you really, really do want to pay using your watch, and your main bank isn't supported, there are workarounds, such as prepaid cards.
Alternatively, go Wear OS, and, have a laggy device with limited support, and if it's made by Fossil, bits will probably fall off!
