Golf R PCP for £470 per mpnth

I'm about to pull the trigger on a brand new Golf R, £470pcm over 4 years with a hat full of options on it.

Am I mad or is the near 15% off on carwow a decent deal?

I love the format, the anonymity and the performance of a goot hot hatch and think this one's set to be a future classic. (I'm intending on keeping it for as long as possible).

Okay, so 'future classic' might be a bit of a stretch but, genuinely, I think this will be seen as a high watermark for the format as the mk2 & mk5 are being viewed now.

There's around 8k of options on it as follows;

Seems expensive. I leased a basic spec one for 4 years / 70k miles for £11k before it got nicked. Appreciate yours is higher spec and that the deal I had isn't around any more, but my brother is still leasing an estate (with a pretty good spec as standard) for about £300/month all in, including deposit. You're looking at paying £27k over 4 years presumably followed by a final payment. It's a lot to pay for a fancier set of options.

It shows cash price, what’s list? I.e. how much discount?
Of the £6.5k deposit, £5k is yours right?
You should be getting at least £5k off between contribution and reduction in list price.

Thats £22,560 in rental and £5,000 deposit gone, £29,560 (plus some other costs).
After the first 12 months it wont feel so exciting to have it.
After 4 years you don't own anything but you've spent £30k.

When these came out there were some good deals around £285 month which sounds a lot more attractive.

To be fair, you have to compare to the deals on offer now. Not what was around in 2014.
And base lease v fully loaded pcp isn’t like for like

Personally I’d buy a 2018 one, 25k over 5 years with a bank loan is roughly the same as your monthly rental. Use your 5k deposit if you want something higher spec. I know it’s not brand new but it’s all years at year 5 instead of nothing at year 4. And as you think these are a future classic, surely you want to hold on to it?

With my money I’d get the Infiniti Q50 with the big engjne

There is absolutely nothing anonymous either about a Lapiz Blue golf with silver mirrors on 19s. Hope your long term plan includes hiding it away from thieves.

No point people hankering back to the good old days of lease £250 lease deals 5 years ago.

Just did a quick Google and on nationwide contracts their lease for 4 years is.

Initial £2071.38
47 x £345.23
£198 processing fee.

Only option is metallic grey.

If you want the car go for it but the mk8 is out 2020 so if you can try and hold on as you are paying top £££.

List is £44,330.

So £44,330 - £39,354 = £4976 .. so not far from the 5k you mention.

5k of the deposit is mine, 1.5k contribution from VW. APR of 3.8% seems pretty good too.


I'm not too fussed about the 'excitement' of driving the same car for a few years and the only reason i'd be buying would be to keep it for a good few years. i know there have been incredible lease deals around but, frankly, them days are gone and this spec isn't what you'd normally get from Arval or the others..

i'm sure there will be cheaper ones around. I would save money on options.

a 32k loan over 4 years would be about 670 a month, should be worth 12-14k, so roughly 380 per month.

Also Broadspeed has them new at 30.5K DSG R.

Agreed about the colour - am swinging more towards Indium grey which, albeit still on 19's with silver mirrors, is a touch more discreet. have you seen the mk8?... i'm not too impressed by the press shots of it. How much do you tend to see manufacturers drop the prices of the outgoing models when the new version is about to drop or is it usually on a case by case basis?.. I can't really see VW discounting these too much to get them off the forecourts.

It sounds expensive to me.

Bear in mind that if you need to bail out at any time during the term its going to hurt.

At 18 months old I was getting offered low £20k's part ex for my 2016 Golf R with a good spec and many options.

They drop like a stone.
