I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I thought I'd put a thread together for the minor project that my Focus Estate has been.
I needed a car very quickly after a break up, and I ended up viewing this car. It was up for £850, and we got it down to £800. It needed new sills welded on, but they were supplied along with the car. The clocks showed about 58k, but an MOT check showed up that the clocks had been changed at some point.
Here are a couple of pictures just after I bought the car!
It's a 1.8 TDCI 115bhp. I've never owned a diesel before, but the torque and fuel economy have won me over!
I drove the car for about 8 months, and then just before MOT time, booked it in to have the sills welded on. To keep the costs down I asked the mechanic to just do a primer coat to stop immediate rust as I was planning on painting the car myself.
With the new sills on prior to painting but following a detail.
I felt like the interior needed a spruce up so kept my eyes open for a full interior from the ST170 and subsequently picked up a set for only £80 locally. I also needed a couple of new tyres so bought a set of ST170 wheels with brand new Nangkang NS2 tyres on for £180 with a pair of headlights thrown in. Around this time I also put the car on the rollers on a local PH rolling road day and was very happy that the car was making the power it should.
That just about brings us up to date. I've got loads more pictures but as there's 18 months of work in the car I didn't was to bombard you all!
The car is doing 1000 miles a month, and aside from a washer pump it's been good as gold. Currently needs a new wheel bearing but that won't be too bad. I keep thinking about whether it's worth doing things like the timing belt, as there's no proof of it being changed, however it's treated me well and is very fun to drive round the back roads to work!

Welcome to the PH old Focus club. I've a Mk2 Estate with the same engine and think it's great. Timing belt won't cost too much on yours as its only the top end of the engine that's driven by it, the bottom end is chain driven. Later ones had a wet belt setup instead of a lower chain which is a big job and pricey, fortunately mines one of the last with a chain.
