Mazda 2 vs Fiat Punto Evo

Dear all

Just looking for a second car for myself and my 18yr old daughter to share. After lots and lots of searching (im really hard work) I think a Mazda 2 would be a good buy but annoyingly I have seen a very nice 2010 Punto Evo 1.4. The majority of the Mazda`s of similar vintage seem to be the 1.3 Tamura with the odd 1.5 sport.

Opinions please if you would be so kind.

Mazda 2 all the way , ideally the Sport. Decent fun to drive, good looks, decent reliability.

If the insurance is sensible then it's the Mazda2 in 1.5 Sport spec out of those two, also if you like the Fiat take a look at the Alfa Mito.

Cheers Nick seems to be a lot more of the 1.3 Tamura than the Sport available for my 2.5k budget.

Cheers the insurance for the 1.5 sport is surprisingly ok so I would go for that over the 1.3. Assume very little difference in MPG between the two but VED is £125 or £145 for the 1.5 so not bad. I do like the Mito I have always had a bit of an Alfa thing but obviously the Mazda is likely to be more reliable than the Alfa or the Fiat.

The Mazda is much more likely to rust than the FIAT.

There was a time that could not be said about Fiat . I guess your right but all the cars I have seen dont seem to be overly rusty.

Reliability isn't an issue for the Fiat or Alfa both are robust so don't let the thought that they'll be unreliable dictate your decision.

Well no idea how this happened except to say I went to look at it and ended up buying it. Its a cat D so it was cheap as chips but it drove extremely well with a fresh MOT and only 45,000mls. Its a 2013 High UP so a few extra toys and a bit pokier with 75bhp. Although softly sprung I was surprised at how much progress I could make on my way home. The steering is really quite nice, light but positive and it makes quite a pleasant noise too. Reminds me of my old 16v Polo so yes im quite happy.

Great buy. An UP was my first car and I have regretted selling it ever since.
These are fantastic cars and are very easy cars to own and drive. Best of luck with it!

Thanks they do seem to be well thought of. Lusted after the UP GTI but this will do for a bit whilst I wait for prices to come down. They do a great impression of a big car feel though dont they,
