Dark Beer recommendations
Discussion
Hello all,
As I expect 95% of PH are connoiseurs of various brewed drinks I am looking for some recommendations. Ever since going to Prague and sampling some Kozel dark beer I have been lusting after it ever since and trying to find it for sale somewhere since to no avail (other than at vast expense online which is back up). It really is delicious. However there must be some other nice dark beers out there - so which are your fave and would recommend? Preferably not £4 a bottle off amazon!

The dark German wiessbiers are nice. Something like the König Ludwig Weißbier Dunkel, Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier dunkel or Erdinger Dunkel. As mentioned above, the Leffe brun is nice.
I'm a big trappist beer fan so if you like something a bit stronger I'd recommend:
Rochefort 10
La Trappe
Straffe Hendrick
Westmalle
There's a lot of places stocking these now compared to a few years ago.

If you can find it, I'd highly recommend a bottle of this on special occasions. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/285/776/
I only have 4 bottles left which I'm saving for Christmas Eve which has become a bit of a tradition. It's strong so one bottle is enough.
One of the nicest dark beers I've had is actually from America believe it or not. It's called Bourbon County. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1146/106...
I've not found it locally in years and the last one I had was when I moved into my new home back in 2015. It's over 15% so again, drink with caution but man it is good.

German - Weihenstephaner Dunkelweiss can be bought in a couple of supermarkets, the best of the dark supermarket wheat beers imo
Beerwulf is good for cheap beers, would second the belgian dubbles other dark beers. They often have introductory 20% off etc
scotland - Orkney Dark Island is widely available and very good.
ASDA sell nigerian brewed Guinness Foreign Extra Stout which is lovely

Gulden Draak make some nicw ones. Keep an eye on Lidl as they do a box of 6 assorted Belgians for about £12. You'll normally get the heads up here - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Westmalle dubbel, in its correct glass of course.
My absolute favourite beer.

One of the things I love about being on the continent is that Westmalle and Grimbergen double/triple are the bog standard beers that most non-beer places like chain restaurants serve around here. Go to a proper beer place and I have trouble deciding
I spend a lot of time on the mainland in Europe and I love finding a good beer place. Happened upon a little bar called Kwak Inn next to my hotel in Riga a few months back and I struggled to leave the place (literally.) The choice of Belgians finest was superb. Rochefort 10 is my go to. Absolutely stonking beer.
