I'll try to keep it short - I have an M135i (F21), the iDrive system (which is NBT) reboots constantly, every 30 secs or so. I have tried the battery and fuse, both are fine (assuming I checked the right one).

Just weighing up my options, some advice would be appreciated. I pay for an extended warranty but they only cover the first £500 of entertainment systems, and don't pay for any diagnostics

1. Pay BMW £90 diagnostic, to potentially find out it's totally broken and pay up £1600 so I've seen online (£1100 after warranty)
2. Take to a local garage and they can "try to update the software to see if it works", costing £54.
3. Look at having a different system fitted, like an Apple Car Play model (cost unknown)
4. https://www.facebook.com/Tomtechtronic-idrive-CCC-... <---- This guy can apparently fix problems like this, anyone heard of him?
5. Any other ideas?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm a bit lost on the best way to go.

I had what sounds like the same problem with my M135i a few months back. iDrive boots up, menu appears for about 10 seconds, pop from the speakers and it reboots. Sorted under AUC warranty by "reloading the software", some i'm guessing it could be a relatively cheap fix if you're paying.

Have you had a maps update recently? I heard they can cause problems like this and a software update fixes it.

Try posting this on babybmw, im sure there will be someone that can re-do the software for you easily enough. Or it'll be a common fault with some further info/reading. Bear in mind the same system is fitted to the F30 BMW's, so a search of the US forums may also help.

Unfortunately this is a common problem on all the smaller (non Pro) iDrive Systems. My Cooper S has the same system and I’m just waiting for it to go wrong... the only real fix is replacement.

I had the same issue on my 2016 118i Msport with the navigation system constantly re-booting (about 6 months ago). Initially the dealer was going to replace the head unit which seemed to be the recommended course of action up until that point but then BMW advised that it was a software issue. The car went in for the day and was re-programmed and the problem has not occurred since
