Windows Defender taking ages to check for updates

Am on W10, the checking for updates keeps checking with the dots spinning around.

Couldn't find anything on google.

Any suggestions?

Turns out it was a Windows Update issue. Had to check for updates a few times to download and install what it could then get it to retry a few failed updates until it eventually got its st together bit by bit.

When using Windows in the past, this very same problem was overcome by manualy downloading and installing them

I've had this a few times, manual download didn't seem to work for me at the time, a couple of reboots did the trick. It's tempestuous.

The annoying thing is that I had rebooted a couple of times ie turned it off at the end of the day, thinking it might fix itself.

I guess the solution is the get a Mac.
