Losing my mind over risk of theft of new car: BRUM

Do you have the option to park the car on the street somewhere and not on a drive? That way, the wannabe thief's wouldn't know which property it belonged to. Perhaps park it in different locations along the street to really confuse them!
I wouldn't be bothered about the car getting nick (well I would be fuming for the inconvenience) as long as no harm came to myself or my other half and I wasn't woken in the middle of the night with someone asking for my car keys!

I've had similar back in the 90's when theft was arguably worse.
I owned a Sierra Cosworth and used to alarm, clamp and block it in.
Slightest noise at night, I'd be up.
Going back to a car park I'd be looking around for groups of lads...
Sold it after a few months, not worth the hassle

My view:
You are overreacting.
It’s a piece of metal that is presumably insured.
Personally if it bothers you that much I’d leave the keys downstairs in easy reach of the most likely access point (but not in view from outside).
That way, anyone breaking in for keys will see them, take them and make off.
You could also up your security - visible alarm, cctv, lights on sensors, locked access points to the back of the house, wheel clamp, lockable post on drive to prevent car being driven off etc.
Or sell it and buy a banger but it seems extreme to me.

I don't live in Birmingham but last December I had my Audi A4 Sline stolen from my house in a burglary so I know where your coming from with this, I thought my Audi being a TDi and 4 years old at the time wouldn't attract too much attention but it apparently did.
I had anti snap locks and the thieves got around them/ managed to snap them anyway. I've since seen videos of thieves using a blow torch to melt the door around the lock where they are anti snap.
I since fitted a house alarm, which will wake me up if nothing else and fitted sash jammers to all doors which are cheap but surprisingly effective.
I now own a Volvo instead of an Audi too as they are far less appealing to thieves.
Of course someone can simply smash a window but from what I've read thieves prefer the silent methods so smashing a window isn't a preferred option usually.

I've been thinking about this recently too as a Golf R Estate would make a perfect replacement for my Forester STi.
I too live near Brum so trying to figure out if it's worth the potential worry!
I'd be looking to buy a used car though, probably worth half the price of a new one...not sure that would make a difference to the scum that nick these cars?!

I would hope the majority of us would put the safety of our families ahead of our macho ego's and a piece of insured metal on the drive.

Annoying as I fancying something a bit more exciting but every time I get close to looking for a change, I find that a *insert German whip here* gets reported stolen every other week within a few streets, or certainly < 0.25 mile radius.

I love north of Liverpool and this has stopped me buying a few cars.
