Diesel automatic for 30k miles on A roads

Hi. I will be quick:
- No DSG cars (VW, Seat, Audi, Skoda) as those could be problematic on used cars.
- Don’t need extra legroom for passengers or a big boot.
- Don’t have a budget but it will probably be silly to spend over £8k on a car that will lose value fast due to high mileage.
- Cheap-ish to insure and repair.

I am thinking reliable Japanese or Korean automatics with under 70k miles on them:
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Toyota Avensis
Mazda3
Hyundai i30
Kia Ceed

What do you guys think? Which of those listed (or others) are the best options?

I think if you want automatic, you’re better off going Honda Accord I-Dtec 2010+.

Hard to find a decent one on autotrader. People seem to keep them until around 100k Same with the Avensis.
Mazda3, Kia ceed and Hyundai i30 have more choice. Any good?
I am in no hurry, but just in case I cannot find a good Accord near me (Portsmouth)

Needn't be scared of DSG to be honest. Keep it serviced and it will be fine.

If I am doing 35k miles per year,I would have to service the gearbox every year at around £300, plus normal service,etc. Might be too much. I did consider a Octavia, but the Japanese/Korean gearboxes might be a better choice

Erm I have no experience with those cars but my brother did work for Hyundai and said the best car he drove was the 2013 + Santa Fe automatic 2.2 diesel. The issue is that they don’t have that engine in the saloon cars, they only come with a very underpowered 1.7 diesel.

There have been 3 2.2 CDTI’s Honda CR-V’s in my family and all have been faultless bar one which needed a dual mass flywheel at 140k miles. You’d pick up a lovely example Accord with that engine for 4-5k but the Auto came after the facelifts which drives the price up a bit.

Thank you. Most are really far away from me (I think only one of them is less than 100 miles drive from Portsmouth). I guess cars are cheaper in the north, but I will keep an eye for those models as you mentioned as well.

If you're buying a car for 30k a year, what's 200 miles to go and buy it??

I'd buy a Kia Ceed/Hyundai i30 (I did). Boring choice but it's awesome with regards to running costs.. Always 55+mpg, comfy enough for 4/500 mile days, enough toys to get by.. Cruise, nav, air con etc, zero road tax, cheap to service, 7 yrs warranty but never had to claim to fix anything in 90k miles so far (apart from routine tyres/brakes). Cheap to insure, nobody looks twice at stealing it!

No problem they're just a guide I'm sure you can find some locally, I forgot to add the leftfield option of a diesel hybrid I have four clients with them & they're seeing good numbers mpg wise plus they're proving reliable.
