How is best to target different georgraphic areas on a website? Currently our site is predoninately focussed towards our local city, but would like to target surrounding villages and towns. Is it best to create new landing pages for each area?

Any advice much appreciated

If you have some budget and want fast results Google Ads allows you to target goegraphicly.

If not I wouldn't suggest setting up landing pages for each area, unless the service you provide varies in each area, as Google will quickly see through this. Instead build some of the location keywords into existing content. Don't overdo it.

Currently use our main area of business for the focus keywords e.g Leeds Windows.

My fear is adding lots of other area keywords would soon flag as suspicious to google?

We also target geographically via google ads, but again this leads to the main landing pages, often not mentioning the villages etc.

Building out dedicated location focussed landing pages for SEO, if done correctly will not cause any issues. There is some pretty good geo-targeting options in Google Ads and to a lesser extent Facebook.

Building out the landing pages and getting the site architecture and on-page elements right is the first part.
