Android battery lifespan
Discussion
Days away from my contract finishing with O2 and all set to switch to sim-only (which is b
dly complicated). My Samsung S8 does everything i need it to and i suspect we're just around the corner from a big boom in mobile technology (foldable screens etc), so i reckon it's worth the wait.
Annoyingly the battery life has done the inevitable and needs charging every day, typically by late afternoon/early evening. Is there any way to reverse this/rectify it without a replacement battery?
If a replacement battery is on the cards, where does one look? I think samsung official shops do it but nearest to me is ~2 hours away which is a ballache.
Thanks

It's a bit of a pain but a factory reset can often help. With apps you've added and removed over the years these can bloat out the device and impact the battery life and performance.
Another thing to look for is having a tidy up of apps you don't use. Some of those might be hogging your battery life.
That said, batteries to deteriorate so it will get worse. I don't know how much it costs to replace one - it might not be cost effective.

Install accubattery and after a few days check the Battery Health % on the Health tab.
THat will tell you if the battery is past its best (if it's under say 80%), or if there's a software problem (e.g. an app stuck syncing over and over)
Thanks, have installed this but not for long enough so will have to wait to see what health it's at. THat will tell you if the battery is past its best (if it's under say 80%), or if there's a software problem (e.g. an app stuck syncing over and over)
I'm assuming with a factory reset, one can save most things to a cloud file and reinstall from there?

If you're signed into your phone with a google account and you've set everything to sync then when you sign in again it will restore your apps etc. If you have important things like documents and photos then I would suggest logging into your google account on your computer first to check they are there to be on the safe side.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
