just 1 question do/should you notify the insurance company if you add on these to the car

I did notify the insurance company (several of them when getting quotes) and universally, the carbon cans did not appear to make any difference to the quote. Same could NOT be said of Nitrons...

I'm sure I've read on here here somewhere you tell the insurance company the shocks have been replaced with non standard products and it makes no difference to price.

Regrettably not so cut and dry re Nitrons. Spoke with many about this and used JSG's advice from previous postings. However, even Tesco wanted to add 10-15% more and they were generally the company who had elements of flexibility in the type of shocks one elected to state were on the car.
