It seems the Beeb are helping the Saudis out with this article but seriously folks, would you?

I know I'd be thinking more than twice about there as a holiday destination. eek

(Besides, the UAE have beaten them to it)

Be interested to hear what the PH'ers who have decided to work in these countries have to say on the matter of human rights issues.

Unlikely to become a tourist destination for the west whilst they’re a dry country...

Yes, as was said in the article... "Non-Muslims will still not be allowed to visit the holy cities of Mecca and Medina and the ban on alcohol will be maintained." so it sounds like a barrel of laughs to me...not.

The BBC aren’t “helping out the Saudis”.

The Saudis have launched a massive PR campaign around this.

It’s all over various media, at airports and they have a whole social campaign around the theme of #whereintheworld on YT, FB, Insta and via web banners.

Not for me, no.
I've been for business, I don't see it as a holiday destination for me and or my family, there's far nicer places to go to relax and enjoy yourself.

Certainly not the stereotypical Brits abroad, but not everyone wants to lie by a pool destroying their liver.

Strip searched me at the airport

Beat me with a stick for sitting down outside a shop during prayer time

Took my passport off me outside a house that was having a party

Didn't warn me about chop square

Was it worth it ? Too right it was

It has hundreds of miles of unspoiled Rea Sea coast. I don't scuba dive much any more, but apparently it's spectacular and pretty much untouched on the Saudi side.

Been there a few times on a project.

Riyadh old town is lovely and very interesting, There's a superb museum in the city - probably better than the one in Cairo. Jeddah is a very interesting city - the souks are amazing; colours, smells, noises......wonderful place to loose yourself for an afternoon. The coast line is stunning in many places.

It is an interesting place to visit.

But I'd not loose sleep if I were never to go back there.

That would of course be an empty barrel.

The UAE is evidence that is you put up a generic resort and advertise the crap out of it, people will come no matter how distasteful the goveenment. People who went to the UAE when it was cheap are already looking for a cheap alternative to the UAE.

But I get the impression that they're not targeting western tourists. Rather tourists from other Muslim nations like Malaysia, Indonesia and various nations in Africa as well as the burgeoning Chinese tourism market.

Can tell you from personal experience, that Saudi birds are hot.

Very hot.

Just don't get caught bonking one in Saudi.

If I were to go to middle east for holiday, Oman or Jordan would be higher on my list.
