2001 4.5 Chimaera radio problem. It is the standard radio fitted to the Chimaera. The radio switches on to a sound of mush, it can be tunes ok but when you turn off the ignition the radio looses all the tuned stations. So obviously it is wired incorrectly, does anyone have a plug wiring layout that shows what
colour should be in each plug hole, what they should do, where they should go and what the voltage or resistance readings each of the wires/pins should be with the ignition on and with the ignition off.
Also can I wire another set of speakers on the rear passel shelf? If so which pin hole should they be connected to.
I have also looked at the end of the aerial wire, there is no aerial antenna on it! Should there be? If so what?
Mnay thanks for looking.

The standard TVR radio/aerial setup is not good, he said politely.
Do consider getting a more modern unit, but one with an old style look to it so that the car comes from Blackpool still, not Blackpool Illuminations.

If you like to think alternatively, here's what i did:

1. Bought a second hand Sony unit with a single CD player, meaning to connect it in like usual.
I bought one with decent sized station buttons so that i could actually hit them on the move without use of glasses or layby.

2. Discovered reception was still rubbish.

3. Noticed i had a USB socket on the front of the unit.

4. Discovered that there are a number of radio reception apps available for my iphone.

5. Connected my iphone to the USB socket.

6. Downloaded Radioplayer onto the iphone.

7. Selected "USB" from the source list. Stunned with reception, crystal clear

8. Pleased to note that the cable also keeps my iphone charged.

There are plenty of head units that will also connect by Bluetooth, you just have to charge your phone conventionally.

Many thanks, if all else fails that's what I will have to do.

To answer your questions,

There should be an aerial on the end of the cable
I have seen them laid on top of the fuel tank, but believe the standard position is around the windscreen.

Yes, you can have four speakers. The rear ones definitely help. I remember from ages ago that they connect to the head unit with the front ones, but cannot remember how.

I have never managed to get decent reception on the TVR set up.

Honestly - I would cut to the solution and either go digital or via an iPhone or iPod. And I would simply get an ICE expert to install and wire it all. Life’s too short to raise your blood pressure that high.

For the rear speakers you will need to run new cables if you don't have existing ones there.
Not hard but if your not hands on and familiar with the car layout it's a bit tricky.
Easiest way is a new head unit and radio app on your phone as suggested.
