Morning all

I've recently unplugged and transported my PJ somewhere to use for a presentation.

I've brought it back, plugged it in and this is what I'm greeted with:-

Is it dead?

Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
Has the HDMI socket or the cable been pulled/twisted/damaged during its trip?

Which PJ is it?

The PJ is a Mitsubishi Hc5000.

I was very careful with it during transport. The only thing I wasn't around when someone turned it off so I wonder if was unplugged before being turned off properly?

Will try an alternative cable... I hope it's not fatal!

Power cycle it, and the HDMI source, could be a 'handshake' issue

Thanks. Do you mean power off at the wall?

Oddly I was watching my LCD TV last night and there were the odd purple line through it. Bit this and the PJ have the picture from my Yamaha amp

My Yamaha amp does this! I do believe it’s a handshake issue, roll through the HDMI Outputs back to the correct one and it always solves it.

To clarify, do you mean switch the HDMI outputs on amp off and on again?

Plug it directly into a source and see if it works, then go from there.

On my Yamaha amp, there is an HDMI OUT button as there are two outputs. When I get that screen, I press it repeatedly so it goes;
HDMI 1
HDMI 2
HDMI 1+2
Then back to HDMI 1 again, that always solves it.

Looks like my PJ is broken. Tried an alternative lead, cycled through the HDMI on and off and even at the mains both amp wise and PJ.

I'm really gutted.

I did try that, same screen unfortunately.

The menu and everything works OK and is clear.

I suspect the HDMI board is borked, possibly the HDMI lead was inserted/removed while everything was on and it has had some static damage.

I think that PJ has got a DVI-D socket, in which case it may be possible to use an HDMI to DVI cable or adaptor. Now that might not work if the board is fried, but it is worth considering. Perhaps get one from Amazon with a return policy if it doesn't work.

This would also work if the problem is due to the actual HDMI socket having damage to the pins.

Thanks, have ordered an adapter now as it does have a DVI input. Good geeking.

Thanks for your help

Not to porn scorn on KM's comment but has anyone ever seen an HDMI to DVi adaptor work? This was the whole business model of HD Fury wasn't it? Sending your HDMI signal through DVi and adding in copy protection.

Surely just adding in a straight HDMI to DVi adaptor will fall at the first hurdle.

Yes, we use them nearly every day.

Interesting, has HDCP been quietly dropped? Because surely by definition of what it does the HDCP handshake cannot occur with an HDMI to DVi converter if you send a signal from Sky, Blu-Ray etc?
