Morning.

My son (9 years old) accidentally nicked the cable which was laid under grass in our front garden about 3" in the soil. The internet and TV side of things are fine but the telephone line is kaput. It's behaving a bit strangely.

Anyone had any joy with getting a cable repaired? We had no idea it was where it was, so could we use that defence? Also.....our contract is up next month as well.

Cheers.

Give them a call and use the renewal as leverage

Ideally it should be in ducting to avoid this as well (tell them that)

Virgin are notorious at just chucking their cables willy nilly, as its cheaper to fix the odd damaged cable than to bury properly.

As above , the cable should be in a green corrugated tube , it rarely is , there is usually a bit at either end to fool the auditor .

I did the same when weeding a raised bed, for some reason the cable was 2m to the right of where it entered the garden and 1.5 m to the right of where it entered the property. Cut though the phone and nicked the coax for the internet. Patched up the coax and rejoined the phone cable and had no problem until I moved out a year later.

Unbeknownst to me, the unused virgin cable was about a foot underground, diagonally across the front lawn exactly where i wanted to plant a tree. Jumped on the top of the spade blade, chopped clean through it. No conduit. Hope I never take a contract with Virgin!

My Virgin cable was ‘spaded’ into the grass & exits it about an inch below the grass level across a border, perfect for edging shears.
Quality job!
No ducting at all until I protected that part with some tubing

Get the cowboys to fix it
