I take a screen grab, open it in paint, save it as a Jpeg and it does this:

I cropped this image so the only thing in it should be these two opposing adverts. This is a new thing...

It’s the canvas size. It remembers the last size used, and if you’ve pasted something large into it previously it’ll still have the canvas set to “huge”. Shrink it to 50x50 (say) and paste in and it’ll expand the canvas to the size of the thing you’re pasting again.

Also if you're on Win 10 you can bring up search and type snipping tool that will let you select and save the exact bit you want to grab

Ooh, that is handy. I am still on win 7 and it has it!

Now on my task bar, that is going to save time in the future, nice one smile

If you want more flexibility than the Snipping tool offers, then try Greenshot - it's free.

I use it a lot - so much so, that I actually donated to the project.

You can add annotations, crop, obfuscate etc. etc.

Greenshot that I mentioned above allows you to define specific keys to functions.

In my case I just hit the Print Screen key and I get to select the area of the screen I want to capture (this is not the default though).

Why?!
Same reason as me. It's vaguely usable, whereas everything Windows I've tried since is a dog's dinner.

I used to do tech support (many moons ago) and having to deal with OS's changing all the time but not really offering much in the way worthwhile improvements lost its appeal pretty quickly.

I dont want to have to relearn how to print a document or where to find the device manager every two years so for now, I will stick with this smile

This OS is nearly 30 yrs old now and look at it. It does the same thing as windows 10 but just looks dated.

It took up something like 12Mb's of disc space!

I configure the “print screen” keyboard button to use Snip & Sketch (built in Win10 screenshot tool) in Win10 settings, it’s now become one of my favourite Win10 features, and I usually dislike Windows 10’s new features.
