Thinking about getting a winter bike, my bike is a 2010 GSXR 750 so nothing special but it’s immaculate and only done 3k from new so I’m reluctant to expose it to a winter!
Thinking about a VFR or a CBR 600 to use over the winter months. To those with winter bikes how do you go about insurance, is it a separate policy or can you have 6 months on each bike?
My policy on the GSXR is up in 2 weeks, storage is safe so not worried about leaving it uninsured if needs be but unsure the best/cheapest way of doing things? Thanks.

Put your winter bike on a classic policy. As long as they're 12 yrs old or more (or in some cases 10 yrs old +) they'll be fine. It helps if you're a member of the vintage jap bike club (about £30/year).

Once your GSXR is a year or two older you should be able to combine them both on one policy

If you’re barely averaging 300 miles a year on your current summer bike, why would you want a winter bike to hardly ride?

Bike insurance is an annual product in the main, so you’d be buying another policy, or just see if your current insurer will do a joint policy for both bikes. Bear in mind that you’re more likely to crash in crappy weather, so could lose a chunk of your NCD if you do claim on a joint policy.

Brilliant thanks, wasn’t aware you could get classic policies on bikes that could be a good option.

I only got the GSXR in April on 2k and I’ve put 1.5k on it since then. Current insurer (Hastings Direct) have tripled my renewal so won’t be using them so that’s why I’m looking at options now for two bikes. Agreed more likely to crash in the winter but I don’t want to not ride all winter, hence getting a winter bike! Have heard of multi bike policies but never seen as an option.

Most of the big insurers do them Carole Nash / Bennett’s / Principal / Hastings etc. Whether you want to change your provider mid-term is up to you but could cost a bit.

I'm with Bikesure (Adrian Flux) they've been very good at organising multi-bike cover previously. They used to offer a discount for Pistonhead forum users as well.

I wouldn't run a GSXR through the winter either. I was mortified at how the finish lasted on GSXR-750 L3 even in summer conditions. Great engine though.

I've had my bikes with BeMoto for a few years now, some for summer use, some for all year use.

They seem to be decent enough and a good multibike price too.
