2002 100PD 1.9 TDI Cutting out at the lights
Discussion
Hi all
I’m having some trouble with my 1.9 TDI 100PD cutting out at the lights and not restarting.
It first happened 3 weeks ago, I had driven 30 miles and all of a sudden as the revs dropped the engine died and it wouldn’t restart.
The car was towed off the road and then 30 minutes later after allot of cranking it started and drove fine.
I took it for a service, all filters and fluids and the mechanic had it running for 3 hours and it didn’t cut out.
I have done 1000 miles in the last three weeks and it was fine, yesterday I was slowing down for the lights and it cut out.
It wouldn’t restart, 5 minutes later it eventually turned over but then died again 20 seconds later.
30 minutes passed and the car started up normally.
I then drive it to a car park to be recovered by breakdown.
It idled for 30 minutes then died when under load from revs.
I have checked the fuel tank and it’s clean
I can hear the pump priming up
All the sensors seem to be in place
There are no warning lights
I have checked for damaged cables under the dash and around the engine bay
The battery is good and alternator is fine
The next step would be to replace the lift pump and tandem pump.
I have also heard about relay 109 possible causing issues?
I scanned the car today and it is giving a Code for the MAF. I will replace it anyway but I can’t imagine the maf is causing this as the maf didn’t provide a fault code three weeks ago when it happened.
I’m at a bit of a lost end
