I work physically every day and I do bugger all in the way of stretching/warming up before work. A combination of this, on top of getting older (I suppose) has resulted in me feeling like I am three times my age most mornings. I genuinely get out of bed like a hunched over primitive man, take a couple of steps whilst I stretch out into an upright position and shake off the muscle pain. This can't be right, nor can it go on for another 60 years!

Over the years, I've found that my knees are clicking and popping more and I can't spend too long on them. In the past couple of months, I'm experiencing lower back muscles ache.

Throughout my working life, I have always made sure to lift everything with my legs and arms, and not be lazy in using my back. Hence, the recent back muscle ache is a surprise to me. The knee ache, less so, as I imagine they take a fair bit of abuse. I'm fairly lean, have visible abs, eat a healthy diet of veg, fish, meat, etc. I try to get out on the mountain bike as much as I can (less so these days) and play an occasional bit of badminton with the wife. I'm hardly a sportsman, but the point being that I am fairly fit.

We have a very comfortable and supportive mattress and pillows from latex sense, so I don't think the bed could be the cause.

So, why am I going downhill and how do I turn my body around to feeling great every day. Is it simply a case of needing to stretch every day? If so, any advice on some routines? The wife follows a yoga youtube channel which I've had a go at myself. I just don't think I'm patient enough to keep pursuing it, unless I'm categorically told it's the only way to feel better driving.

Lower back ache you say? You need to stretch your calf muscles, hamstrings and gluts. Sit on floor with legs outstretched and push your knees down with your hands. You can do it in front of the TV for 15 mins each day. That'll help. Works for me.

Easiest option is probably to join a yoga class.

You will still feel worn out after a heavy day of lifting, mind. It's the natural way the body repairs itself.

My first thought was yoga. I am fairly new to it, but the difference in the last month is noticeable. I have been going twice a week.

Loads of videos on youtube though if you don't have access to classes.
