Anybody ridden old and new Diavel?
Discussion
I test rode the new 1260s today and was very impressed, but, and it’s a big but, it is circa £20k, I’m wondering whether it is worth considering a gen 2 bike for approx half that, not so worried about losing the quick shift, but the Ohlins on the 1260 worked very well.
Anybody ridden both? How do they compare?

That’s a good article. I have a gen2, I can confirm that the gen2 does have a fuel gauge. I haven’t ridden the gen3 yet but the gen2 has 162bhp so a touch more power and not strangled that bit more for the latest emissions. It’s an amazing engine, I agree with article that touring mode is best for road, smoother and not as snatchy.
My biggest gripe is the suspension. They’ve resolved that on the gen3 S model with full Ohlins. The stock stuff handles well enough but the ride is awful on bumpier roads. Ohlins and Nitron both offer solutions for both ends. I will be going the full Nitron route at some stage.
That aside, it is a cracking bike, I prefer the look of the gen2 though that is of course a personal thing, the gen3 is a fine looking bike, I like the front end, not so keen on the rear and I also think the details look cheaper/value engineered somewhat compared to the gen2. They have resolved the suspension finally, I can’t believe it has existed for so long without a factory suspension option.
Enjoy whatever you get, gen2 has long service intervals compared to gen1 iirc, don’t know about the latest.

Here’s a nicely sorted one, has Nitron rear shock and Andreani fork cartridges which also have excellent reviews from owners...
