Hi, Friend has £15k to spend on something fast, interesting.
Requirements:

4 doors / can fit a family
Not hideous Tax if possible
Petrol
Good sound/eye catching
Feels Special, sense of theatre

Daily commute is about 20 miles so Probably not really Derv territory.
He seems fairly keen on "an M3" but don't know much about M3's or what's good/what's not. He's just nudged 40 so insurance shouldn't be an issue. Has owned a Ducati so needs something with pace.

I was thinking of something like a IS-F but not sure how much these are.

He's reasonable with spanners/will rope me in, but anything known to be problematic or maintenance heavy would be out on that basis.
Will be a daily driver so reliability strength is important.
Man Maths suggest something at or nearing the bottom of the depreciation curve is where he wants to be. Coming out of company car ownership so doesn't want to put £15k into something that's worth £5k in a few years.

Suggestions welcome, thanks !
Adam.

If you're going to buy a 15k super saloon, does 550 quid tax v 300 quid tax really mean anything?

It could be a consideration, open to suggestions either way. Thanks.

The German cars tick the "fast" requirement, but not the "interesting" one in my opinion.

I'd personally go with a Vauxhall VXR8 at that price point. 4 doors. Plenty of space. Choice of LSx engines, though his budget will probably net an early LS2 6.0.

The car is great fun, reliable, parts are cheap (upgrades or replacement), and it's rare smile

ISF was my first thought, followed by an XFR.

Cheers,

Have no experience of but if you want a 'sense of theatre' I don't think you could do better!

edit

I should add this, as this one appears not to be a regular auto;

but I still like it - reminds me of my Lancia 8.32, although I'm not suggesting that.

4.0 M3 Saloon my brother has one & loves it but it's cost a lot more to run than my 63 initially but now he's the remedial/performance work done it's proving reliable.

IS-F hard to find but they do get under your skin people will say they lack go (which is rubbish) they're no worse than an RS4 or M3 which all have to bow down to the 63:

Minor budget stretch probably, and AT doesn't pick up the spec, but put the Jag 5.0 in an XJ, and Supercharge it. Theatre at its finest.

Both have silly tax. He should get over it.
