MOT history concern

I’m looking to buy an old TT as a weekend project car. I have found an early example that I am interested in. However when checking the mot history there is a problem with the mileage.

In 2015 it has an an mot with 107000 with a few advisories

In 2016 it has an mot with 3500 miles and no advisories.

In 2017 it has an mot with 112000 miles and advisories that match with the 2015 mot.
Since then all has been consistent which is also true of the mot history from 2005 onwards the car seems to average 3000 miles between its mots in the past 10 years (apart from the 2016 one)

Does it seem really dodgy or could there be a mistake. The information is taken from gov.uk

Definite mistake.

Unless it was clocked and the owner then clocked up 108.5k miles in a year...

Yeah, seen a few examples like this.
If everything else checks out I'd ignore it

That wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It will flag up on an HPI (or similar) but it's obvious what's caused it. If it were a newish/higher value car it could make things more awkward at selling time but for something low value it's unlikely that people will care (occasional oddball aside).

Contact the buyer and ask straight up, had a garage make a mistake on mine once and caused me loads of bother getting fixed, also they of ten mix up km and miles on imports .

some times owners state shaped in engine miles and not full original car?

Just a thought, but could it be that in 2016 it was 3,500 miles from needing a service and the tester put that down as the mileage?

Given that the year before and after look consistent I don't think I'd be put off.

The mileage on my 1982 camper is all over the place on the MOT history as the testers grapple with a 5 digit and decimal odometer.

Human error I reckon - although I like the service indicator theory.

id put it down as a mistake ...highly unlikley its been clocked to 3500 then back again
