I inherited this from my grandad. It won't unlock and is now my pet project to fix and spruce up.

It's meant to unlock and the top swivel to get to the decanters. The mechanism of the lock turns, but the bar isn't retracting to release the top. Here it is in the unlocked position.

Does anyone have any tips on fixing it? I was thinking of filing down these pins so the lock can be removed.

There is normally a lever on a tantalus, beneath the lock, others you push in the lock at the same time as turning the key.

I owe you a virtual dram from a recently unlocked tantalus! The process was to unlock, remove the key, and then press the lock down.

I now have the dilemma of whether to come clean to the family or pretend I'm some kind of lock-picking genius.
