new ipad - no email contacts ?

got a new ipad air , got it up and working as we want , email account added that receives /shows old emails etc but when you go to type a new email theres no contacts listed

what do i do please

Have you been into the account settings to check the contacts sync is enabled? And I assume your contacts were definitely synced with this email account and not another? Sometimes it feels a bit of a lottery which contact belongs to which account, if you have multiple set up on your device
