Will TVR ever make a TRUE Cerbera replacement?
Discussion
I know getting facts out of the factory is like draining milk out of a peanut, but...
The Cerbera was and still is a beautiful car, a V8, curves that are mature and a retro approach to an aggressive overall look that has as much road presence as more rarer heavier priced exotica from other marquees...
But will we ever see TVR make cars at the same 'classy' design levels as the cerbie again?
These sawn off hatchback things and tuscan 2's feel so dry in the essence department in comparison to the true blackpool rocket....
I mean, are the Griffith, Cerbera days truly over? Is TVR heading into the void of anime styled sawn-off shotguns?????

I agree, the cerbera has a much better design if you look at it that way, less 'hardcore racing' design but still has top spec performance... The Sagaris is designed to look like a real hard racing car...
I would LOVE TVR to release the Griff or Cerbera again in a slightly different form --- maybe with a 6litre beastie this time
Dave.

Dave.
I just had this vision-a Tuscan 2 with a 550 bhp supercharged engine and Sagris vents in the wings and bonnet,2+2 seating and trick aerodynamics that were pilot adjustable for speed or ground effects.
Cabon fibre on a space frame-only aircraft aluminium grade rather that steel so sub a tonne all up with driver and three "playmates"
Surely-it was all just a dream....like TVR might be one day....

Lets hope not eh! The Cerbera was not only responsible for TVR's reputation for balls out sports cars, but also it's suspect reliability... Just ask the ex-owner of TVR, who openly admited the Cerbera was one of his biggest mistakes.
Agree, however, that TVR needs a 2+2, with a V8 option and even (ducks to avoid flying objects) an auto option.

Not strictly relevant to this post though. His comments about mistakes was that he wrongly predicted the amount of orders that would come in an loaded his workforce accordingly. With fewer orders he had to lay people off. That's what he considered the mistake to be...

Surely the speed six engines have been responsible for that? Mine has certainly been fine so far, as have many others I know about.

Wasn't that because they ended up losing money on it because the engines and interiors were costing so much to manufacture?

I thought it was more than that - the car cost too much to produce and changed too many things at the same time (engine, electrics etc) which caused some unforeseen reliability issues?
Even with the cerbs problems,
I think reputation wise regarding performance it gave TVR a really good name putting them right up there with the best of them?
I'd say it definately upped TVR's popularity and put it more into the mainstream market.

Please TVR make a Cerb replacement!
Long, low, 2+2, pops n bangs, race car engine, GT interior etc.... Ensure it comes in at about 55K max. 500 bhp plse. A V8 would be nice. No forced induction rubbish though plse.
TVRs reliability issues were not created by the cerb.
They started a long time before that.
eg in the mid 90s tTVR were even featured on watch dog re chimaera and griff owners with electrical, engine and leaks problems.
The cerb really pushed (IMHO) the view that owners do the road testing / product testing for TVR ie first 2 yrs of cerbs were painful for a significant number of owners (and dealers). Once sorted they were great.
Then of course the S6 engine arrived............!
I am sure Peter Wheeler felt the Cerb was his biggest mistake because he couldnt / wouldnt want to suggest the S6 was a problem. I am sure the Cerb issues that he referred to were just the relatively low volume of sales and the costs of putting the engines together. They were not that it was a bad car or unreliable. It just didnt make him money.

I hope so, but I fear the answer is no.
Everything coming out of Blackpool looks roughly the same now.
Tuscan2, T350(Sagaris), T2 Ragtop, Tamora(if they're still taking orders).
They all make financial sense, sharing the same chassis/body tubs, but I feel they lose their individuality.
PW has gone, so has his influence, therefore no Cerb,Griff or Chim direct replacements

Why the hangup with people wanting V8s?
The Cerbera's V8 is a flat plane crank anyway, so it doesn't even sound like a V8. The speed 6 makes a nicer sound and if you ignore the debatable reliability issues (3 year warranty largely handles that) then it's a superior engine in every way.

Don't really want to fuel the V8 debate as most people know where I stand.
I do get the general impression that many owners with V8 cars would not upgrade to the current offerings. As many TVR purchases are repeat buyers the market of potential buyers is reduced markedly by this fact which will not help TVR in the short term.
I do keep hearing rumours of a V8 option and that TVR have some at Blackpool on test. Whether it becomes a reality is another thing.
I do like the Cerb a lot but prefer to be able to take the roof off - hence the Griff. Gives the best of everything.

I loved the classy look of the Cerb. Lovely cigar shape
However I always found the lack of room inside a problem. I'm a little bit chunky
That's why I got a Tuscan instead. The S6 and V8 both have their merits and both sound lovely at different revs. It depends whether or not you prefer the banshie to the grumble.
Cheers

That sound! No contest! My reason for going back to a V8 from the Tuscan. I missed it.

Each to their own. It was okay.

I would love to ignore the large hole in my wallet my rebuild cost me!
