breath rate >20 resps a min at rest?
breathing worse/better lying down?
productive cough or dry cough?
if productive, colour sputum?
pain on inspiration?

wheezing and cackles could be asthma/URT infection or other stuff.

trip to surgery to see doctor or practice nurse most needed i think.

I get it bad after exercise, but I can do 45 minutes on the cross trainer so it doesn;t seem to effect my lungs. I don't smoke. I read it could be inflammation or mucus.

I've got Sarcoidosis and I get the cracking lungs thing when I'm having a flair up (fortunately not for a while).

Get the docs to send you for a chest X-Ray just to make sure there's nothing untoward going on. Sure you're fine but lung cancer is the silent killer.

Get yourself checked out.

Mine turned out to be pulmonary fibrosis, and thanks to another medical condition, I've been turned down for a transplant,
