My 981 Spyder has Pirelli PZero tyres fitted which I detest.

I have been told by a few people now that Michelin PS4 tyres will improve the ride, which although fine in Europe I find too harsh in the UK on our dire roads.

The PS4 tyres come in a variety of fitments including Porsche, Ferrari. Mercedes & others. I am not concerned about having the 'N' rated Porsche tyres, I just want the tyres which offer the most improvement in ride comfort. Even if that's a PS2 that would be fine or even other brands like Continental or Toyo etc.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of fitting non 'N' rated tyres to Porsche and if so which are the best in terms of ride.

Cheers

PS4 is more the lower end mini hot hatch tyre and not really the right tyre for the Job and def NOT what Ferrari fit to their cars.
I run 2 cars on PS4S and 2 cars on CUPS, I let about 2psi out the PS4S and have no issues.
If you can get the pilot super sports (the true PS2 replacement) they are a softer ride than the PS4S but have reduced wet weather grip, but a really great tyre, the PS4S is the new Super sport, and I think the new PS4S is due for replacement already.

If you want a softer tyre the Goodyears are OK tyres. But really you want to go and buy some PS4S tyres and just let 2 psi out.
DON'T buy PS4's

Thanks for that, I meant PS4S just too many different types of tyres! I have an Exige on cups how do you think they compare to the PS4S in terms of ride? You say best tyre for comfort would be the pilot super sports (the true PS2 replacement) but which one do you mean? Thanks :-)

Cups are hard. pilot super sports are just that, pilot super sports.

although the PS4S is the super sport replacement, but it's a great tyre, had at least 10 sets of those.

"The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is a Max Performance Summer tyre designed to be fitted to Passenger Car

This tyre replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
This tyre has been replaced by the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S>

it's a 9 year old tyre though, I remember having one of the 1st sets in stock back in 2010.

Totally agree the P Zeros are rubbish on UK roads and they are even worse as temperatures drop.

I have a 981S and decided to go for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 with an N rating, as I wanted to maintain my warranty. The ride is significantly better, as is road noise and grip. They are not the latest technology, but I don't track my car so that doesn't concern me.

I couldn't be happier.

And the GY F1 A2's wear well too. 30k miles and fronts still at 6mm on my 981. Previous A2 rears lasted 25k miles. Excellent all rounder.

the Pilot Sport 4S tyres are excellent. Do not hesitate to buy them. Far better in the wet than the p zeros, and can actually handle the odd track day. They also ride much better than Cup 2s and the P zeros. I do not think they are going to be replaced soon considering they were only just released 2 years ago.

The tyres were the thing I disliked the most with the spyder. Horrendous tyre.

If you're locked into a Porsche warranty the only N rated tyre for the 981 Spyder is the Pirelli P-Zero

981 GT4's have two options with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race; both come with health warnings relating to wet use.

Those tyres seem to work well on my car too.

Driving in the real world, and actually doing some mileage in any conditions, I would give both the GoodYear and Bridgestone options top marks.

Just imvho

The Michelin PS4S does have the N rating in the 981 Spyder sizes and would be the tyre of choice for me.

I have the PS4S on my E92 M3 and love them. Had the previous PSS on my Cayman R and my old BMW 1M and they were good but the PS4S are better in the wet.

Yes, also been impressed with GY F1 Eagles, if ride comfort and low road noise are the priorities.
Swapped to them on several cars, inc a 981, and there is a detectable improvement.

Thanks everyone for your answers. I think there is enough positivity surrounding the MPS4 to go for them. I am also considering some replica fuchs in 19" to assist with ride quality at the same time. Anyone running 19" wheels?

these are a hot hatch main stream tyre the MPS4, you need the PS4S I would NOT buy reps they weigh a ton and will ruin the ride !, and the Spyder I think would be great on 19's , it would lower the in gear speeds.

MPS4S great road tyre.

I had Supersports on my R and found the dry performance wasn't worth the lack of wet performance. If you're going to compromise wet weather performance just get Cup2s IMO.

I agree with this..Super cars or sports car have a choice of two tyres imo..I fitted MP4Ss on my Ferrari a few weeks ago as its for road use and have Cup2s on my new RS as i'll take it on track occasionally..
