End of the 10's beginning of the 20's
Discussion
Not found another thread about it so I figured I'd make one. So how are you all gonna feel about this decade then? Mostly positive or negative? How do you see the next one going? Seeing as this has been a 90's resurgence decade, I'm holding out for a return of 00's music and car design. We've gone back to generic and uninspiring cars, now hopefully we'll change again like we did 20 years ago.
it’s just a general feeling, and real specific examples are hard to find, but I’m afraid I’m of the opinion that society is now going backwards rather than forwards in too many areas. The lives we had in the past we will see less off in the future. The next decade is going to ram this down our necks. I hope I'm wrong.
Social media is now a curse (I realise the irony of posting this on PH) I saw a survey recently that said 2/3rds of 16-year olds wished it had never been invented. Can’t find the link though. It has given the vocal 3.5% (as alluded to elsewhere) a chance to make their voices heard, and only their voices heard, and their actions taken seriously.
Calling them out on their logic is deemed almost heresy, (more power to Andrew Neil though) and I fear they are gaining serious traction and numbers via the education system.
My only hope is that the left will eat itself, it usually does, and we can continue in some semblance of normality and a sensible rate of adapting.
Many areas of life are going through change, and they always have, but with IT, the internet, social media, permanent information access (smart phones) and AI just appearing on the horizon, it appears the accelerator is now being pushed down hard. I don’t think as human beings, we can adapt fast enough.
China’s vast facial recognition program for a social credit score I didn’t see coming 5 years ago, yet I suspect there will be governments all over the world thinking “what a great idea- when can we have that?”
There is just so much in Orwell’s 1984 that is now almost with us, the book is becoming a manual rather than a warning.
One part of getting older (I’m 54) is realising that “history” wasn’t that long ago. If I take my lifetime that started in 1965, and take 54 years off that, that’s 1911. Hardly anyone had a car, a phone, electricity, seen an aircraft- never mind been on one. Television was 2 decades off and so it goes on.

There's over 14 months to go until the end of the decade.
When the new decade does come, it will be the ninth these old bones have seen, so the answer to your somewhat premature question would be, "Meh, I've seen better."

Did you celebrate the millennium at the start of 2000, or 2001?”Back to the Future II” (1989) was on TV the other night, with its hilarious view of what “The Future” would look like, including flying cars, hover-boards and self-drying clothes (it got a few things right too, like flat-screen TVs and kids glued to their phones).
Somewhat shocked to see it was set in 2015.

Thoroughly depressed if I'm honest. The world is going to hell, nothing genuinely good ever happens, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and we're moving towards Orwellian levels of surveillance. (Previously posted on here, something along the lines of "George Orwell was right, but little did he know we'd be voluntarily carrying the cameras and we'd get cross if someone wasn't looking).
Housing costs young people a fortune, their only crime being born 40 years too late, and t
ts like Extinction Rebellion seem to think they have a mandate to stop people going about their daily business whilst cloaking themselves in "saving the planet" crap. All very well but I guarantee you that on their days off they fly places, get annoyed at being stuck in traffic, expect the police to come to their aid and use plastic stuff just because.
I was born in 1963 and from my perspective the 1990s were as good as it got. I seeing nothing more now that the occasional bit of pleasure whilst hoping that I'm not too ill for too long before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

That's a shame to hear. The 90s were presumably your best years, not necessarily the best decade for everybody.
