I'm looking for a future bike to buy and really like the FTR1200 Indian flat tracker style bike. First seen at the NEC show last year in the flesh.
I like something different to what I have and will go alongside the H2 as my second bike

So the main reason for this thread to was to ask who has a newer Indian motorcycle. Thoughts on Quality and reliability? I know where my local dealer is even if it is in another country (Wales wink ) which is only 30 mins from me.

I'm not rushing to go out and buy yet but most probably will be getting new one when I do

Dunno about the FTR, but certainly on the 'proper' big air-cooled heavyweights the quality is excellent. No reason to beleiuve this should be any different. The Scouts have been around for a while too now and I'm not hearing any issues with them...at all. I bought one of the first of the 'new' bikes in the UK (first batch in - numbered bike) so I might have anticipated a few teething problems, but the only thing I've had fail on me was the speedometer, and that turned out to be water ingress; but I ride the bike in all weathers and it rains a lot in Scotland. I live right by the sea and you can smell the sea air quite a few mornings and it's played havoc with a few vehicles rust-wise. But the Indian is now 5 years old and about 30,000 miles and folks mistake it for a new bike. Absolutely not a spec of corrosion anywhere, none of the alloy has pitted - not even slightly, none of the paint and anodisation has fallen off and the chrome remains perfect. Certainly on the Chiefs they seemed to have used quality materials and are well built. I only have knowledge of the Chiefs but I've never heard of an engine failure anywhere (internet forums spread bad news fast) except when folks have 'uprated' components from stock.

I had a look at the FTR and it again seems a quality bit of kit. The FTR 1200S looks particularly good, especially in the black/red. I didn't realise the black was a metalflake until I saw one on the sunlight. I have sat on one and poked around it, but it's too much of a hooligan's bike for me now and there's no way I could exploit it fully. The only thing I'm not keen on is the low level silencers, but I see Indian to high-level pipes as an option that look much better.

Join the tribe. Everything else is just a motorcycle - this is an INDIAN.

Interestingly I went to the NEC last year to specifically look at Indians. Sat on them all and loved their looks, but for some reason that didn’t translate in to heading to my local dealer for a test ride. Can only guess I’m not serious enough about one. Lovely looking things.

10 months into being an Indian rider and the bike is fabulous. Starts first time, runs smoothly and is a joy to right wrist. Scout 60 and happy.

I know little about them but that FTR does look great.

10 years ago I really liked the Benelli Tre-k. I bought one new for just over £8k. It was a great bike. Sometimes you just have to buy what you want and I reckon an Indian is way less risk than the Benelli was.

Shame, you'd think for £10k they could have built in some character!

cheers for the feedback. Glad to hear. I've talked to 1 Indian owner who went from Harley due to poor quality such as corrosion on the frame and chrome.

I want something different to my bike and while I love the FTR a test ride for me is a must before I buy.

I fancy one too , the spec in your original post they have now come down in price too ! Sat on one in vegas this summer its a bit tall for me but i can live with that its just a matter of which bikes to sell to get one , I’m good at buying bikes just not so good at letting them go !

Nice looking bike. Not so keen on the exhaust but that can be changed. Will be interesting to see at the show next month.

Thought there must be a picture of it somewhere 'optioned up'...found it! With added 'Tracker collection' goodies (extra cost of course!). So much better IMHO with the high level exhausts and the 'race number' covering the side of the fuel tank below the seat and relocated number plate.

I will be ordering a few extras with it. i don't never had the original exhausts on and like this pic prefer the higher exhausts.

The S&S is better looking, but buying one would be an expensive way to find out that you don't like the high-level pipes.

They also do a slip-on.

I like the look of this. However: price is quite steep & I don't like the idea of non-standard wheel sizes & semi-knobbly tyres.
Dealers are pretty sparse on the ground. Nearest to me: https://www.indian-primefactors.co.uk/ftr-1200-fam...

I was in Krazy horse the other night and enquires, they have a demo. I thought the switch gear was cheap looking and it wobbled on the handlebars. But it is a pretty bike. Not cheap thou, PCP deals over 4 years and 1k down was around £190 a month. I think they will hold there value well.

I will have a look in a year at the 2nd hand market .

They are meant to cook your nuts in the summer due to exhaust

My Mate and I were looking at one parked up last night, we live in Mallorca, so don't see them often.
We both agreed that the engine didn't look like an engine, and wasn't keen on the looks of what is supposed to be the engine. But we are both Old School Old farts.
The paintwork was lovely though.

I've not seen one on the road yet. Why I like something different

I was in the local Indian emporium and amongst the ‘standard’ FTRs there was one tricked out with the high level pipes and relocated rear number plate. Prefer the black/red colour scheme, but thought of this thread...
