Car swap - Worth a punt?

Was browsing facebook marketplace and came across a 2004 civic type R with 119k miles - swap for a diesel. Messaged the guy to see if he was interested in a 2006 golf gt 170 tdi with 155k miles with a new MOT. his has no service history, but looks healthy, mine has fish till 120k after which I serviced at home......the guy wants £500 with my car, is it worth a punt? always wanted a type r again
I've never swapped cars with someone and would be wary as to why they're so keen to get out of their car, so you need to know what you're doing. As you service your car, you can probably inspect a car better than most and know what to look out for.
The mileage on the Type R isn't horrific and the K20 is a solid engine. Even without history, a full service after purchasing should be safe enough. There is less to go wrong on these and I am frequently seeing EP3's and FN2's up for sale with 150k miles plus still going strong.
The Golf at those miles could start to give issues with turbos, frequent cambelts etc. Do you do a lot of miles that warrants having the diesel?

I had an 04 EP3 with 130k on when I bought it. The chains have a habit of stretching and showing their age above 100k, so as a precaution I had mine done and it certainly pulled a lot better once done.
If it has no history I would be pushing back against that as a bargaining tool, unless he has proof it's been done (which I doubt). It's about £500 iirc. I had mine done at HondaHQ back in September last year.

The guy is looking for a diesel because hes doing more miles, I do around 20k miles a year, but also have the 335d that the wife drives, so will split the mileage. The golf will need timing belt in 20k miles, and has a dpf, which is always in the back of my mind. Good idea. No harm in checking it out! Go for it you can usually tell if there's a hidden agenda. I've swapped my last few cars (although they're third cars and never used).
Unfortunately I barely have time to look for other cars now let alone selling one at the same time, so for me it's very convenient and I'm not bothered about squeezing the exact value out. I have a ballpark figure of what a car owes me and I've never lost money.
In the last 6 months I've gone Mercedes V230 > Jag XK8 (which I then restored and got bored) > Merc SL350 which I'm now looking to swap/ mostly exchange again for something bigger or silly, e.g. Touareg or Argocat

Long story but Tonga is really far away and it turns out some people as just as weird as me, so I swapped what was an unfinished eco-glamping site on a small island with a little business flying people around in an old Cessna and a little Piper something.
