Let's not speculate on the motives this time.

What do we all want them to be?

Well, let's hope it is an altercation between promising young footballers about their place in the team rather than a terrorist attack.

Apparently being investigated by anti-terror police, but that could cover a variety of different groups.

Its being investigated by counter terror police because of the location and type of incident.

There is no suggestion at all that its anything other than someone having s paddy and stabbing a few people.

Apparently there was a disturbance at the Arndale 5/6 days ago with antisocial behaviour by youths that resulted in the food hall being emptied.

A shop worker, who gave his name only as Jordan, 23, described a man "running around with a knife lunging at multiple people" - and said someone had come into the store "visibly shaken with a small graze".

Is that yellow thing a Tazer ?

Aren't they making a fundamental mistake, considering Officer No2 is holding the target?

It is a Taser and no they're not making a mistake.

He's probably already been 'shocked' and is being handcuffed.

Even if it's being discharged whilst he is being held, providing the officer doesn't touch the area between the two barbs he'll be fine. e.g. if the taser barbs are connected in his lower and upper back, it's fine to hold his arm.

Sort of, it should have been a real gun with bullets emptied into him, then the officer would not have to put himself in harms way.

No, detention under power is be safest way of doing it. The officer holding the Taser gives the commands and can reactivate the fired cartridge at the press of a button. Handcuffing is safely achieved in these circumstances as the subject is not being shocked at the time, but can be electrified at the push of a button.
