Do I need a graphics card
Discussion
I have a Windows 10 Pro PC, with Ryzen 3 2200G processor and on-board Radeon Vega graphics, 3.50 GHz. I have 32GB Ram.
I have two 24” VDUs running at 1920x1080.
My main use, apart from browsing and word processing, is image processing, both stills and video. I use the Affinity pack of three programmes: Designer, Photo and Publisher. The main video editor is Power Director 365 (18).
I had an NVidea graphics card, 2gb, that malfunctioned. It seems it was a clone and a poorly made one at that. The problem was a poor connection.
Since using on-board graphics, I’ve noticed no problem with the setup apart from, I think, slower rendering and jerky preview in video. This might be me being a bit more sensitive than I used to be. I’ve recently worked on a book in Publisher with lots of images, and get the occasional short hang that clears itself after a couple of seconds. I’ve not had this with books with less images.
I might be going for a larger VDU, perhaps 27”, replacing one of the 24” ones, in the near future.
The question as to whether I need a graphics card, with what RAM, is not answered clearly on Google with my particular setup. Has anyone on PH any ideas?

I’d personally recommend buying a good dedicated graphics card if you’re rendering images and videos on a regular basis. A dedicated graphics card has a separate processor and separate memory, rather than using one chip to do both jobs. The Vega onboard graphics will also be utilising some of your 32GB RAM too, meaning less memory is available for other applications.
You can upgrade the size of your monitors without issue! However if the native resolution of the monitors increase (e.g. 4K), then you may need to upgrade to a dedicated graphics card for better performance.
