I'm currently reviewing my options and considering either a Boxster or possibly a 996 cabrio. Prices for the 996 (facelift 02-) seem to have stabilised at around the £48k mark for a year or so now. Any views on just how much the 997 will bring prices down further over the coming months? Obviously I'm assuming as more owners trade in their 996s for the new model the market for the older model will come south pretty quickly. I'm hoping £40K (03 plate) in a year, or is this wishful nonsense?

Essentially, I'm trying to work out buy now or wait a tactical 6 months. Judging by the old 993 prices they seem to drop then hold for several years but I'd put that down to the air-cooled fans keeping prices buoyant. If it were your money, what would you do?

either way you seem to be after a convertable.

you could wait your tactical 6 months and buy a convertable in November, one of the wettest and most miserable months of the year where the days are shortand cold, or you could buy one now and enjoy the summer sun with the roof down. seems to me one of the above is good tactics, and one is not!

I am so with 911nutter. There are some things to be sure about: Even Porsches will depreciate and the weather will get wetter / colder in November. So don't postpone something for later than you can do today. I took the roof back this morning, cruised into London in light half-term traffic - terrific. There are some things money cannot buy - for the rest there's ..... card.
