Let’s say one was to buy these, plus 10 3-pin XLR male-female cables.

What sort of controller would be required to control the colour etc?

What do you want to control?

Any of these will do simple stuff like control the colour, brightness etc.

If you want to control from a computer search also for USB DMX dongles/adapters and software.

Or there are Arduino DMX shields if you're that way inclined.

The right answer probably depends on what you want to do with the lights.

It’s just for occasional use in our Village Hall to provide something other than stark fluorescent tube strip lights. Stood on the floor uplighting the walls. In the kit linked, you get remote controls for each unit but like the idea of being able to set up en-masse.

Presumably this would fit the bill? https://www.djkit.com/ledj/ledj-easiled-4-dmx-cont...

Yes a simple DMX RGB controller will work if you just want manual control.

It will but will probably be totally unnecessary, the lights should have a stand alone mode where you can just set them to red/blue/green whatever using the remote or the selector on the back. It's not guaranteed with the cheaper chinese ones but I'd buy them first and see how you get on. Having a controller, plus the cost/headache of running DMX to everything sounds like wayyy too much faf and expense for what you need.

Understand your point totally. I will probably try them "manually" first but the inner nerd quite fancies hooking them up properly! Plus we will almost certainly add some permanent lights elsewhere so central control would be good in the long term.

Another question - I assume that if all 10 are on the same daisy chain they must all do the same thing, rather than be independently controllable?

Nope, each light can have its own address.

It depends on how the light works, but if you take a basic light like the one you have posted it would work something like this.

RGBW = 4 channels

You would then address them

Light 1 = 1
Light 2 = 5
Light 3 = 9

Etc or you could group several by using the same address.
