So, my learned friends, do visors degrade over time (excluding scratches and physical damage)? The reason I ask, since it's been wet over the past week or two, the rain on my (Arai) visor seems to be "clinging" to the visor, rather than rolling off, making it somewhat difficult to see clearly at times. I clean it regularly, and I use Rain-X Plastic variety on it, but it's hopeless now.

The helmet and visor are about 3 or 4 years old, I can't remember whether I bought it in 2015 or 2016. Used pretty much daily.

Yes they do, it will have thousands of micro scratches in it that you won't be able to see and water won't run off as easily as it used to, just buy a new one smile

You also have to be careful what to spray on them, I have read, although no idea how true, that the Rainx type coatings to make the water run off can degrade the perspex

I *think* that is true for the glass version but there is a specific plastic version which says suitable for use on visors? Happy to be corrected though.

I've heard this about RainX a number of times but have used it off and on for the last 20 plus years. I've never had a problem with the visors I've used it on and they don't seen to deteriorate any quicker/slower than the ones that don't get RainX on.

I normally get the initial bugs/salt/crap off with some visor cleaner (if i've got any), or maybe some spray cleaner that might be lurking under the sink.

Then finish off with a good dose of furniture polish got give it a layer for the rain to bead off. When riding just turn head slightly right then left to get the rain to bead off on each side. Works ok mostly.

And baby wipes work wonders for removing stubborn stuff like flies in the summer

The only problem i've had was when i used to ride all year round including the harshest winter time, when road spray full of salt would get all over the visor. The trouble then is, wiping with a glove is then like wiping sandpaper over the visor and quickly ruins them. Not really an issue now because i only ride from roughly start of march to end of nov.

Get a cheap beeswax spray polish from the supermarket, the more layers you spray on the visor the better it works, water beads off

Same here. Only needs a tiny amount, and has to have silicone in it, then buffed over with a non-abrasive cloth.
