If for some reason you had no option, Who could do everything they currently do with their current big bike with the 125 equivalent and what would that 125 version be?

I know before anyone writes it that after youve had a proper bike a 125 is the devils work but humor me!

I live out in the sticks on a very fast flowing A road that's really hilly. I'm also 6'2 and ~ 95kg (I'm not a company director tho!) I wouldn't last a week.

If I lived in the city, I might have one as a second bike; probably also a duke!

I'd have a derestricted DT125LC and just wheelie everywhere.

If a 125 was the ONLY option, I'd give up biking. The train would be my only realistic option for my 150 mile round trip commute and I'd really not enjoy Euro-touring on a 125.

My lad is about to turn 16 so will be doing absolutely everything on a Chinese 50 stepthrough. Well he will if he is anything like I was.

But it's different when you had zero independence before, and now the road is yours.

Bit different coming from a Fireblade to a 12hp 125 isn't it?

Given the choice though, it would have to be a Suzuki GT125. Loved mine back in the day. And the smell of two-stoke exhaust... cloud9

Due to poor financial circumstances I had to go from FZR600 to a DT125. The powervalve was opened and it was all or nothing.

I had a great time doing little jumps and wheelies over speed humps for a few months until I had the funds again for another 600.

I tried using a newish YBR during my first six months of riding and it didn’t feel safe on my A road commute.

My bike is a pure plaything, so yes I could use a 125 for fun. Could I use it in exactly the same way? No.

A full power 2T enduro 125 would be good though.

No.

I ride for fun and could not manage that on a 125cc.

(Save for some ancient two stroke mentalist thing, obviously).

I have a YBR125 along with big bikes and happily use the 125 for anything I'd do on the others. (Except power wheelies smile )

Not really, I don't think.

I made the mistake of buying a YBR125 which I never ended up using on the road, but I sorted out some bits on it. I ended up losing probably £400 on it as gave it to a friend (he's done similar things for me and he's really like a brother).

The 500 twins seem attractive for a commuter, but tbh the savings don't really seem worth it for someone like me that doesn't do high milage even if it was their only transport when compared to a 600cc or 1000cc il4. The only huge benefit for me would be 2 pot sliding calipers rather than 6 pots.

Maybe something like a varadero would be a good choice though.

On last year's Province jaunt, there was this French fella touring the Gorges du Verdun 2 up on this DT125R.

I ran a BWS125 scooter alongside two other big bikes, was great for commuting and planking about on, I couldn't do long journeys though, anything over 10 miles was a no for me.

If i had to choose a bike, it'd be a MSX125/Monkey, all those 2 strokes above would be great, but as a daily bike to commute on, no thanks.

I could but fortunately my commute is only 7 mile through pretty busy part of Southampton. I'll take a KTM Duke with a race can please!

I ride for fun and don’t tour or commute. I could have lived with just my RS250. I’ve not tried an RS125. I think tuned they are good for 100 mph. So maybe (but I’ve not ridden one). I don’t think I could live with a standard 12 bhp restricted road bike though.
