Is there anyway I can find out easily what it was for, exactly?

I'm looking at potentially buying a car that is advertised as Cat D (I know, should be Cat S now?) which doesn't particularly bother me, but I was wondering if there was any way to find out easily why is was written off and when?

I have the reg number, and that is all.

Vcheck do salvage database searches, but they can only get full adverts for the last 5 years. If you follow them on Facebook you can see that they can get all the pictures from the original salvage auction too.

Cat D became Cat N - non-structural damage.

Cat C became Cat S - structural damage

I was looking at a local Merc that was Cat D and arranged a local company to do an inspection. It would have been quite good and even valued it but once the service history came back as being rather crap, I decided against it. It was £300 mind you!!

Www.vcheck.uk May bring up pics from the salvage auction it was remarketed by.
Though I tried it once on a Cat N car and no images were brought up, although the car had only been purchased from the salvage company a few weeks back so perhaps it takes a bit of time.

Decided against it. The price on a well known internet auction site has now exceeded what was prepared to go to.
